"Of course we want to get paid for what we do. But part of being a good teacher is making myself available outside of the classroom. Sharing knowledge isn't always about dollars a scents. I have a good feel for people that are genuine and those that are looking for freebie. My students are honorable people that never take advantage of my generosity" ~ Alan Gordon

The first question David Kilgannon asked me in his first Meisner class was, "Does everyone get as nervous as I am?" I assured him he was not alone. I recounted my first acting class when I was so nervous I was literally talking to myself on the street. I told David, "you're nervous because you care." Since that day David has grown in leaps and bounds. He "listens" and lets his body do the talking. It is my sincere pleasure to be able to witness his growth from day one.

Enya Mommsen has done such a wonderful job progressing in every stage of the "repetition" exercises. Her fellow students love working with her because they know she is going to respond from her gut at all times. Every time she works she gives the polite routine the heave-ho and that keeps her partners on their toes.

When Jesse Gruberg started with me he learned quickly that the "repetition" exercises are demanding. To his credit Jesse hung in despite the difficulties and little by little he is gaining an understanding of the importance of "listening" and not "trying" to make something happen. He's got moxie and his hard work is paying off as he's beginning to land roles. I'm proud of his accomplishments.

My dear friend and student Lloyd Goodman has lost his fight with cancer. True to form, Lloyd smiled to the end, never losing hope. Lloyd was loved by everyone that had the good fortune to have known him. His passions in life were his family and acting. Lloyd never did anything half-way. He gave all of himself to everything he did. I will always love him and he will always be in my thoughts. I miss him already and I will honor his memory by living my life to the fullest and never back down from a challenge. May my dear friend rest in everlasting peace.

Acting is doing. Meisner's technique starts with "listening", stripping away the defenses, discarding the ego, and eliminating thought. In my next workshop I will address the first 2 stages of the Meisner Technique in detail. Students will be given an opportunity to participate in the exercises. I look forward to seeing you in June, Alan
